Do you deal with a number of aches and pains in your knee, shoulder, or other areas of the body? OC Medical can assist with these pains through join injections. Joint injections are a steroid or medication used to lubricate the joint. The medication inserted into the joint will reduce inflammation and swelling of tissue in the joint space. After receiving a joint injection, patients often feel relief from pain and other problems they have been experiencing.
How do Joint Injections Work?
Joint injections are a relatively simple procedure. We will insert a needle directly into the affected area and push medication into the joint. The joint injection normally only takes a few minutes and patients can feel pain relief within a few hours. There is mild discomfort that occurs when the needle is inserted into the skin and deeper tissue. We use a local anesthetic to numb the skin to reduce discomfort during the injection.
What to Expect
Joint injections are performed in our Ogden medical office. We will have you lay down in a position that is comfortable and allows us to reach the area that needs to be treated. Immediately following the injection you may feel pain for a few hours and then experience a relief from pain within a few days. Due to the way your body reacts to the treatment, you may experience pain for 3-4 days after the treatment.
At Home Care
What should you do following the injection? We will recommend several at-home treatments, but they normally involve using some ice on the treated area if it continues to be sore. We recommend patients rest and take it easy for a few days until the area feels better and is able to tolerate regular activities. Unless there is a complication, you should be able to return to work. Contact OC Medical today to schedule your joint injection.
